Today at my local guild meeting the theme for show and tell is...BASKET QUILTS.
I love seeing what others have made and are working on, besides the sweet friends I have made, show and tell is the highlight of the meeting for me! Today I will be sharing two quilts. And how is it that I ONLY have two basket quilts when I LOVE basket blocks so much!?! I'll have to fix that!
The quilt above is from a magazine years ago, based on a pattern called "My Best Baskets" and if I remember correctly it was supposed to have another border but I messed it up so badly that I just left it off all together. See, there is always more than one solution to a problem! But I digress. I made it many years ago when I was a fairly new quilter, so I'm pretty proud that it got this far. Grin.
This quilt is just a portion of the basket quilt found in the book When the Cold Wind Blows. One of my favorite books of all time by some of my favorite designers of all time. I knew I would never be able to make the 3,892,436 baskets needed for the original quilt, so I decided to make mine smaller for a wall hanging. It looks fabulous over the piano in the fall, or sometimes I hang it over the sofa and it looks good there too. I do love it and sort of (?) wish I had made the bed size version. But this one is finished and I get to enjoy it, so that's reall all that matters.
I can't wait to see what everyone else brings for show and tell today!
love your basket quilts!! they are some of my favorite all time quilts to make. cracks me up about the 3,892,436 baskets needed for the full-size quilt. so very true!
