My quick tip this week is...CHANGE YOUR ROTARY BLADES!!
I know that I (like many quilters) wait far too long to change my blades.
It's just not something that is convenient to do while in the middle of a project.
So if you don't have time to sew, change your blades and you will be so glad you did!
I have heard it suggested that you can sharpen blades by cutting through several layers of tin foil a few times. I don't know if this works. I also know that there are sharpeners on the market, but I don't have one. See the rotary case labeled USED in the photo? I put my old blades in it and save them. Someone in my guild collects them a couple times a year for some charity (for veterans, I believe?) I can easily bring them to the meeting, or throw them out, once they are safely tucked back into a case.
NEVER throw them away without putting them in a container! They are still very sharp and can cut through the trash bags, and be hazardous to you or whomever else handles the trash.
Be careful, be safe, and stay sharp!
(pun intended)
