Memorial Day
Memorial Day is such conflict in my mind. My heart feels so heavy thinking of the sacrifice and burden required by so many, and yet it is a celebration of that service as well. I just don't feel like our picnic at the lake and relaxation with the family is really respectful of the sacrifice made by so many. Yet, it was that very sacrifice that makes this freedom to enjoy our beautiful country possible. So I will do what I always do, picnic by the lake with the family AND talk with the kids about why it's such a special day. We will talk of service and sacrifice, and we will talk of gratitude and respect.
It seems only fitting that I finished this quilt this weekend. It will be going to the Fischer House in Tennessee. A facility that supports the families of wounded warriors. It provides housing and "home away from home" for those who want to be near their service members while they receive treatment. I can't think of a better way for a quilter to say THANK YOU on Memorial Day.
Have a beautiful day, and please say THANK YOU to the service members in your life for me, please.
Diane
