Reading List

Yesterday I was hanging out at the local book store, waiting for them to put out the newest edition of QUILT SAMPLER magazine. I love that magazine and always wait impatiently  anxiously for the next issue. I asked the person working the magazine section if she had seen it yet (because it always sells out quickly!) She very kindly checked the computer and came back and told me that it was in the back, in a box, and wouldn't be put out for a day or two. Seriously. I'm standing in front of you offering you money and this is the response. Now, I understand those shipment boxes are big, and the magazines are heavy, and the boxes are not marked with which magazines they contain...but I want my magazine dang it!!! So I said I could wait, and gave her my very nicest smile. No luck. She wasn't budging. So I did the only thing I could do...I found someone else, played dumb, and asked them if it had come in yet. Same response. At this point I was starting to sweat. Really, you are telling me it's in the building and I CAN'T HAVE IT? Maybe it's just me, but I was not happy with that answer TWICE. I continued to smile and use my very best manners (in spite of the rage frustration going on in my brain.) So that really only left me one option...and NO I did NOT break into the storage room and start shredding boxes, though the thought did cross my mind.  :)

So I went around the store and starting snapping photos of all the books I want to buy online for my iPad. Yeah, well, that's how I get my revenge. What can I say? There are loads of good books out that I want to read and hope to get some more reading done this summer.

Just wondering, have you read any of the books above, and would you recommend them? It's always nice to get someone else's opinion. Oh, and don't tell me if you have your copy of QUILT SAMPLER  yet, that might push me right over the edge. Thanks.

If you need me, I'll be at the bookstore.

  1. nope I don't have the magazine but what I tend to do is I don't buy the magazines - I sit down with them in the book store and look through them with a cup of coffee and if I see a pattern I would like to make I snap photos of it along with the instructions - I know - not nice no one is getting their money but I hate to pay for a magazine if I only want one pattern. I only do this once in a while though as I find most of what I want on line for free - I really don't care for many of the magazines they all seem to be the same and rarely have what I want.

  2. Hi there.....word has it the magazine won't be for sale until May 7th....I know....I'm counting the days as well...
I just brought "The House I Loved" back to the library yesterday...I enjoyed it as it was written in an unusual way...
I read "Little Bee" several months ago and found it interesting with a twist for an ending...
Have you read any of the Kate Morton books? - I love her writing so much as I like historical novels with many surprises...
I stay out of the book stores as - with all the fabric, quilt magazines and sewing supplies - I don't have room to store books other than quilting ones....I use the library and love it...
    Best wishes.....

    1. Hi Laurel, I too love the library, but I often check out the bookstores to see what's new, so I know what to request. I did get the magazine this morning! The book store called and told me they had unpacked it. Thanks for the tip about Kate Morton, I'll try her too! I'm starting the "The House I Loved" today, so glad to hear you liked it. The first few pages have already got me curious! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!

  3. I haven't read any of the books you've listed, but you can't go wrong with Isabel Allende or Maeve Binchy!

  4. I read 'Little Bee' a couple weeks ago and while it was a very interesting (& good) book, I didn't like the ending at all. Mostly I like to read to escape and that didn't quite do it for me.:)

  5. Yes, I share your frustration--am always amused to hear shop owners expressing concerns about their business but unwilling to assist a customer standing in front of them with cash in their hand, GRRRRRR!
