When Lori sent out the invitation to do a Doll Quilt Swap, I couldn't sign up fast enough! I have been a follower of hers for years and really admire her work. She was kind enough to do all the work of collecting names, assigning swap partners, and contacting everyone. I know that's a lot to do and I really appreciate her time and energy.
As soon as I signed up though, I had a mini panic attack! What would I make, how would I quilt it, would it be good enough? I know, I always put way too much pressure on myself, but that's just me. So I sat down with a cup of coffee and started really thinking. What do I enjoy, and what can I reasonably do in the time given? Well, tumblers weren't the first thing that popped into my brain, but when they finally did, I knew it was the way to go! I may already have a stash of several thousand cut and ready to go, so I sorted through them for the best reproduction fabrics (that was one of the rules). Then I started sewing them together and was hoping a border fabric would be easy enough to choose. I tried brown...too dark. I tried green...too light. I tried several shades of blue until I found this one...just right. At least I hope the recipient thinks so.
I machine pieced it and machine quilted the blocks in the ditch. I then did some simple hand quilting in the border to give a little texture to it. I am not the greatest hand quilter, but I enjoyed the process and think that it turned out pretty well.
Thank you Lori for a fun swap! I'll be sitting by the mailbox waiting for mine to arrive. LOL
Enjoy every stitch!
