It might seem obvious that having a basement filled with water is not a good thing but let me share why I don't like it...
1. It smells funky.
2. Replacing a water heater costs $1,531 (calculate that in yardage!)
3. I now have about 30 bags of wet carpet padding on my back patio (anyone need some?)
4. The dryers and dehumidifiers are LOUD.
5. The dryers and dehumidifiers use a lot of electricity, which means a circuit blows every time I turn on an iron or sewing machine. Hmpf.
6. I would much rather shop for fabric than new flooring.
7. The dogs are completely freaked out by the noise and the unusual flooring situation.
8. None of the doors will close because they are all swollen.
9. The dryers make all the blocks on my design wall fly away.
10. The flooring in my sewing room has buckled...do I dare calculate how much
11. Moist fabric does not feel as good as dry fabric.
12. Did I mention the smell?
The good news is that all of the sewing room is basically safe. None of the quilts were damaged. It could have been so much worse, and I am thankful that it wasn't. It does stress me out a bit though because it cuts into my sewing time, and that's how I relieve stress!

So sorry! Our kitchen flooded a couple years ago which led to complete remodel because of buckling floor. It was a pain! In the end, I got a gorgeous kitchen that I will be paying for the rest of my life! How about escaping from the chaos with some hand work outside with your dogs in the sunshine?
ReplyDeleteYes, having a wet basement sucks. That seems awfully expensive for a water heater. I also calculate the major expenses by how much fabric they would buy!!
ReplyDeleteI truly feel your pain. Our basement flooded on May 15th as a result of not one, but two sump pumps failing at the same time. We had to pull out 1000 sq feet of carpet and haul everything up to the main floor. My hubby's office is now done, except for the piles of boxes everywhere. My sewing room has about 75% of the flooring done. We still have baseboards to replace in there as well. I had put my new rolls of batting up just two days before! It is a process but you do get through it, one step at a time. BTW, if you lay the carpet padding in the sun, it dries out pretty quickly, making your garbage men much more amenable to taking it all in one go!

ReplyDeleteOh yuck! What a mess and you are right - that's a lot of fabric you are wasting on other things! Lol! Good luck on the clean up. Maybe you can sneak in some break (sewing) time.

I am so sorry your basement flooded and you don't get to sew! I'm glad no quilts were ruined though!!! Makes me glad I have my quilting room on the second floor and not my basement even though there are more stairs going up! Post some pictures when everything is back to "normal" and I'll go upstairs and do some quilting for you!!!
