My little family really needed to make the most of the last three days of summer (none of us were ready for it to be over so soon!) So we took a quick trip to California. I know, we live in Georgia, but it was a non-stop flight and we were there by 9:30am and spent the first day at the ocean.
We rode bikes along Santa Monica Beach and enjoyed the pier, a yummy vegan lunch, and played along the boardwalk. The day was gorgeous and dipping our toes in the ocean was PERFECT!
The next day, my awesome hubby took all three kids to Magic Mountain to ride all of the roller coasters. I used to love roller coasters, but my body no longer agrees. So I had a rental car and nine hours alone. That could only mean one thing...QUILT SHOP HOP!!!
My first stop was Quilters Emporium just off the 101 freeway. I arrived thanks to my gps but at the back door instead of the front door! The staff was super sweet and let me in anyway. I bought a few notions and some fabric (but only had room in my carry on...we don't check bags when we fly) so I was being careful.
The next stop was Cottons and Chocolate, and WOW what an awesome store! Gorgeous, and beautifully arranged, and I can totally see why it was featured in Quilt Sampler magazine. Again, super friendly staff and I found some goodies to purchase. I chose a couple spools of thread, a few fat quarters and a mug.
My third stop was at Quilty Pleasures and I was so sad that they were closed on Mondays. No worries...I traveled on!
My last stop was at Candy's Quiltworks in Northridge. I'll be honest, I was a little scared to get out of the car. It was a super busy street and the outside of the building looked a little "iffy" if you know what I mean. Not being judgemental here, just cautious. So when I opened the door and saw the amazingness, I was more than relieved! The staff was super friendly and didn't mind that I took so long to just wander and stare before actually making up my mind. I bought a couple of half yards of quilt label fabric and another notion or two.
I easily fit everything in my carry on bag and was so happy with my mini-one-woman-shop-hop. It was a wonderful day, and I still had time to go back to the hotel and have a nap before picking up the family. Not bad for single day in L.A.
We are home now and the kids are back in school today. *sniff* Glad we have some fun memories to carry with us!
Enjoy every shop!
