The 10 minute tip today is super simple. I have NEVER put water in my iron. It's true. I keep a spray bottle of water on my ironing board and I use it to spritz whatever I am pressing. I find that I get a nice crisp press and my iron lasts forever. I don't have to worry about my iron leaking or spitting or corroding. My iron will last forever (until I drop it, oops!)
I know everyone has their own methods for completing different quilting tasks, but this is something I have done for as long as I can remember and it is still working well for me. Yes, I've tried those fancy pressing sprays that smell good, and I actually do like them, but I find that water is just as good and it's free!
Do you have any pressing secrets you would like to share? I would love to hear them!
Press on!
Diane
so smart!!
ReplyDeleteThis is what I always do too.
ReplyDeleteWell, that was a strange rant for a quilting blog comment!! Tips...well I like to starch my fabric before I cut it, so after I wash it, while it is hanging on the line, I spray it with starch. The starch absorbs while the fabric is drying and when I press it, no white flakes!
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the fact that your iron won't get mildewy if you don't put water in it. That just happened to me and I've been trying to get the mildew out. I may be switching to a spray bottle!
