Happy Mardi Gras Y'all!

(Of course I made a quilt called Mardi Gras Memories, pattern found HERE.)

Did you know that I grew up near New Orleans? Did you know that Mardi Gras is a way of life if you live in south Louisina? You can't 'go' to Mardi Gras, it surrounds you!

We had King Cake parties every friday at school. The person who got the 'baby' brought the cake the next friday. We all dreamed of getting the baby!

We went to the parades as a family and came home with no voices from yelling "Throw me something mister!" so many times.

We saw the decorations everywhere we turned. The music, the lights, the beads, the parades, the king cakes...I miss every single thing about it. One day I will return to experience it again.

Laissez le bon temps rouler!
(let the good times roll)

  1. It looks like fun and a lot warmer than where I live!

  2. Never been to MardiGras but it looks like fun. I grew up on the Atlantic Ocean, really near the beach in a very well known summer resort. I think that the ocean air is in my blood- really miss it though I live in a lovely place now. It's so funny that wherever I go and live, I think that the beach will always be " my home". I feel that you feel that way about New Orleans.

  3. Great MG quilt - it definitely evokes the feeling of Mardi Gras! Looks like this year's Mardi Gras will be another chilly and gray one. Last year it rained all day and the temp was around 40, this year won't have the rain, but everything else is the same. It seems like the sun always makes an appearance in time for Rex, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll be home working on quilts!

  4. Funny, as I have no desire to go to NO or Mardi Gras. I like a good festival or party like no other, but I've never liked the concept of party now, repent tomorrow. (lent) I can imagine growing up there it was just part of normal.
    Great quilt though!!

  5. I know exactly how you feel! We moved from New Orleans last June, so this is our first Mardi Gras away from "home". I miss the King Cake the most!! I will be watching some of the parades on the WWL app on my iPad!!
