TBT

For this edition of Throw Back Thursday, I decided to share two quilts from 2010. I made the quilt above for my mother in law for her birthday. She loves to garden and I had collected flower fabrics for years. I wanted to try the fan blocks, and ended up drafting my own so that I could get the setting to work like I wanted it to. I used the palest fabrics in the middle and used the darker fabrics as I worked toward the outside. Looking back, I wish I had done the opposite. If I had put the darker fabrics in the center and let them fade toward the edges the look would have been completely different. Oh well, she seems to like it and that's all that matters.

About that same time I made a quilt for my mom for Christmas. She likes quilts with limited fabrics (no more than 3-4) and that is REALLY difficult for me. I think this quilt actually has 7 or 8 fabrics but she loved it because it is very orderly and tidy. I enjoyed machine quilting both of these quilts and like how they are so very different, as are the recipients.

I hope you enjoyed this version of throw back thursday!

  1. Both quilts are very beautiful! The first one is very interesting for the way you laid the fan blocks out. And I love the flowery fabrics!
