Today's 10 Minute Tip is all about using what you have on hand! I had made quite a few hexies before I decided to change the size of hexie I wanted for my quilt project. What to do with the leftovers and unused blocks? Machine applique them onto little pin cushions of course!
Or onto a journal cover, or a mug rug, or a small pillow... basically anything else that can be appliqued onto. They would even be great on quilt labels for a sweet little detail.
It's fast and easy! I simply used a pressing spray, pressed the hexie unit well, then removed the papers. Press again to make sure all the seams are tucked into place and then machine quilt with a walking foot around the edges of each applique and around the center hexie. I have an easy tutorial for making a journal cover in any size needed found HERE.
Don't think this idea applies to just hexies, use any small leftover block or unit for these ideas. You may be halfway finished with a project and you don't even know it yet!
Enjoy every stitch!
Diane
This is a great tip!! Your pile of hexie pin cushions is so cute.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I have a tin of hexies without a direction.
