A Book Review and Give Away!!!

I was sent this adorable children's book about a little girl making her first quilt. The publisher asked if I would be willing to review it and host a give away on my blog. The story is sweet and would be good for both reading to a child or for beginning readers.

This short summary explains that Maya wants to help welcome her new brother and decides to make him a quilt. Grandma to the rescue! Grandma spends time teaching Maya how to quilt and the story parallels the activities of the birds outside Maya's window and the preparation of their nest for their family.

The illustrations are darling. They are collage, with layers of fabric, paint and drawing. Any fiber artist will appreciate the attention to detail.

There's even a wonderful section in the back on how to make a simple quilt and the supplies needed. I especially love that Maya made some very creative choices in her quilt!

The nice folks at Tilbury House Publishers would like to give away a copy to a reader. So if you would like to win a copy of this book, simply leave the name of the child you would like to share this book with if you win. I already know which grandma I'm giving my copy to so that she can share it with her granddaughter!

Thanks for playing along. I'll announce the winner on Friday!

  1. This looks like a very beautiful, thoughtfully-written book. If I won it, I wouldn't give it to any of my grandchildren (of which there are many). I would keep it at my house and read it to them when they come over (which is often, as they live a couple of minutes away by foot). I could have as many as 8 grand-kids on the couch with me while I read to them. They love it, and so do I!

  8. I would keep it at my home to read it with my great granddaughter, Raelynn. She is just turning 1 the end of July and she already loves to sit in my lap and watch me sew. I want to teach her how to quilt and to love it as much as I do.
