Orange Peel Blocks

I was able to hand applique a few of these orange peel blocks this weekend. They are for the Midnight at the Oasis Quilt Along that Juliann is hosting over on her blog. Go take a peek at all the other fun quilts being created...but come right back, please!

Oh there you are! Cool huh? I am having fun with these blocks. They are super easy and travel well. I have the parts all packed up in my travel kit so that I can stitch on them whenever the mood strikes. I use freezer paper templates ironed to the back side of the shape and use the edge of the paper to guide my stitching. Before I take the last few stitches, I pull the paper out, tuck under the remaining seam allowance and finger press it. The last few stitches close it up and there is nothing more to remove or deal with. It gives me a consistent shape every time!

Obiously they are not perfect, but they pass my test! I also know that four inch blocks in a big quilt are not going to get scrutinized the way I do when I'm making them. So I've decided to be happy with them. I'm really enjoying the bright colors and fun patterns. What do you think?

Enjoy every stitch!
Diane
