Someone contacted me last week about a quilt he had and was unable to keep it. He will be moving and wanted someone to take his mother's quilt...specifically, someone who would appreciate it. He read about me in the newspaper and decided I would be a good candidate.
I agreed to accept the quilt, sight unseen, and promised to make sure it was well taken care of. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box! All of this lovely hand work must have taken his mother years to finish!
Each state is represented with the flower, bird, capital marked and year of statehood. I love the colors and the stitches! It is truly a labor of love that took years to complete.
Unfortunately, it is machine quilted with machine stitching that meanders in the background. Not quilting in found in the actual embroidery. And the borders are stitched with a loop and star design. The border quilting is not very well done.
Overall, it's a beautiful quilt and in excellent condition. There is a label with the maker's name, date (1985) and location. I sincerely want to be a good steward of this quilt. So my questions are...
Does anyone know what the value might be (ballpark)?
Is there a good place to sell/ donate this for charity where it will be valued?
Any other ideas on how to find it a good home where it will be well taken care of?
I'm happy to enjoy it for now, but any suggestions at all would be helpful.
Thanks so much!
