Monday Medallion Quilt Step 3

Welcome to the next step of the Medallion Sew Along for my new book Scrap Quilt Secrets! All of the patterns and pieces for this quilt can be found in the book. Detailed instructions on cutting, pressing and sewing along with diagrams and step by step instructions are all found in the book. This sew along will direct you to the page and item in the book for those instructions. If you need a copy of the book, you can order it here.

Step 1

Make one Star block B from page 73.

Step 2

Make 20 four patch units found on page 15.
Special instructions for pressing can be found on page 94.
Sew 2 rows of 4 blocks and sew them to the sides of the star.
Sew 2 rows of 6 blocks and sew them to the top and bottom of the unit.
Press the seams toward the four patch border.

Step 3

Make 28 Triangle Border blocks found on page 14.
Special instructions for strip piecing can be found on page 95.
Carefully arrange the blocks so that they are alternating as shown.
Sew two rows of 6 triangles and two rows of 8 triangles.
Sew the rows of 6 to opposite sides of the quilt top.
Sew the rows of 5 to the remaining two sides of the quilt top.
Press  the seams toward the four patch border.

Notice that this step uses colors from the first border and the center star. I chose to put the red next to the four patches to create a dividing line between the borders. This would also be a good place to use a background fabric as well. I was just trying to use up scraps that I had on hand.

I hope you have fun sewing the triangles and let me know which method you prefer from page 95.

Enjoy every stitch!
Diane
