4 Patches Plus Half Square Triangles (hst)

Playing with four patches was so much fun when I combined double and triple 4 patch blocks HERE. that I thought I would play with some double four patches and add some half square triangles, also known as 'hst' in quilt lingo. So I used the block above to make these layouts...

And then I turned the hst units around so that the red was in the corner, instead of the white. I had fun playing with them this way...

And then I decided to combine the two blocks (which are the same pieces, just sewn together differently) and came up with some really fun options...

I actually came up with about 20 but these were my favorites. Which one is your favorite? This whole EQ thing is addictive. LOL

  1. Isn't it so fun to play with a single block or two and find all the possibilities.

  2. I think that it is great to use simple to make such great designs. #9 is my favorite.

  3. So...is there going to be a book on 4 patches? ;-)
I've been making them as we work through the RSC colors. I might have to step up my game so I have enough to try one of these patterns!

  4. I’m rather staid and traditional, so I like 1 and 5 the best! But several of them are really interesting. If I had stunt sewers (hehe), I might try them all! 🤣
