June 2021 book List

The Henna Artist

I listened to this book on Audible and would highly recommend this format if you love the sound of the names and places being spoken and pronounced properly. I would never have gotten some of them correct in my own mind. The narration added to the feel and emotion of the book and I enjoyed that added dimension.

It's a wonderful story told about a pair of sisters and their family and the traditions and cultural expectations that they choose to defy. It's heart breaking and heart warming at the same time. It's about families and relationships and survival and embracing unexpected blessings. I highly recommend this book.

The Lost Apothecary

I ordered this from the Book of  the Month club recently because of the amazing reviews. I sometimes think my expectations are unrealistic when I've heard so much about a book and worry I'll be disappointed. I was NOT.

This story jumps between present day and late 1700's London with a connection and mystery that are compelling and intriguing on both sides. It is the best kind of historical fiction in my opinion and I just loved this book. Please read it!

Malibu Rising

Another Book of the Month club selection that was much hyped and did NOT disappoint. I read it in one weekend and was thoroughly engrossed in the story and the characters. I was a little offended that is described as historical fiction and the time frame it takes place in is when I was in high school! LOL\

It's a fast paced story that takes place in 24 hours with lots of back story inserted throughout. The family is one that experiences multiple traumas and the sibling relationships really are the glue that holds them together. I would highly recommend this book.

While I didn't get a lot of reading done this month, but what I did read was so amazing. I will go back to this list and keep choosing titles. It's so fun to have my own library of books I really want to read!
